Dutch Gold Coins
Unlike other common gold coins that are currently minted such as the Canadian Maple Leaf, the American Double Eagle, or the South African Krugerrand, Dutch gold coins, known as "Guilders" are valuable for reasons entirely separate from the gold content itself.
The name stems from the old Dutch word gulden, or golden. Rare and uncirculated Dutch coins are available, and do offer incredible value as they are no longer regularly issued.
One of the more popular Dutch coins we focus on here is the Guilder. The Willem III 10 Guilder is a particularly popular route to take, if one can obtain them. Unlike run of the mill troy ounce gold coins, the Willem III's have their own unique specifications:
- minted between the years 1875-1889
- 6.7290 grams in weight
- 0.1947 ounces of pure gold
Like just about every other country in the world, the Netherlands went off of the gold standard in 1933, making that the last year that mass produced gold coins are available from, with few exceptions since. As such, most if not all Dutch coins you'll come across are rare and valuable. And they're an attractive buy for a number of reasons:
- Beautiful artwork and design
- They are rare, especially if uncirculated
- They are highly sought after, making their potential profit margin for resale high
The long and short of the matter is that Guilders are an attractive wealth storehouse for both medium and long term investors, or for those that a little more savvy when it comes to buying coins or other hard assets. Do your research, but definitely consider Dutch gold coins for the long term, as they're a smart move overall.
