Minting of the gold 20 mark coin ceased completely during this time. The 20 gold Mark had been the backbone of  Germany's economy since 1871.  Minted from 1888 to 1915, the German Wilhelm II gold 20 mark traces its roots back to the grand period of the Prussian monarchy.

Any citizen who was smart enough to store their wealth in these historic  gold coins was able to protect themselves from the devastating effects of hyperinflation which followed.
