Silver Bullion Soars 49.3% in 2009
Silver bullion outperformed gold in 2009 with a 49.3% gain against the USD, compared to 23.9% for gold. Even more spectacular, silver rose against all of the major world currencies. The metal's gains ranged from a low of 16% against the AUD to a spectacular 53.0% gain against the Japanese yen (JPY)!
Over the past nine years, silver has averaged 17.6% against the USD. Silver can be volatile (as illustrated by last year's 23.8% decline) and is best purchased as part of a long-term investment plan.
