Ten Dollar Gold Eagle
Ten Dollar Gold Eagle coins were first minted in 1795 at the Philadelphia mint. The denomination was minted until 1933 and contains several different varieties. The $10 gold eagles that were minted before 1833 are very rare. They have very low mintages and their survival rate is even lower.
The gold Eagle existed as the base unit of denomination for all gold coinage in the U.S. for almost 140 years. What made the gold Eagle one of the most widely circulated coin types in American history was the wonderful convenience of the $10 denomination.
